Custom Keymapping without xkb

I am trying to setup keymapping for my second keyboard only, a small gamepad, Razer Orbweaver, but xkbcomp doesn’t work with java applications like Minecraft, and I am unable to find a workaround for it. I might be incorrect, but xmodmap uses xkb?

-xkb reverts back to the original default keys when java applications
are active
-xmodmap uses xkb?
-Loading the config at user login doesn’t work
-Not sure how to force the xorg to use the custom keymapping, but that shouldn't work either.
-I believe the java application is running with the x server which xkb should be able to handle
Update: Other java applications are NOT force the keymap to fail/reverting back. It's just minecraft.
Terminal output

I am scratching my head at how to correct this. Any suggestions?

Re: Custom Keymapping without xkb

It's more likely that the process in question (did you reproduce that w/ anything but minecraft?) operates on the keycodes, ignoring all higher level mapping.
Some WM however allow to automatically switch the keymay, if you've multiple keymaps configured.

Also there're at least even 4 OpenJDK implementations, which one do you use and did you try others (or even oracles java)?
Speaking of which: this is https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/minecraft/ and not some stuff you installed from the interwebz and that brings god knows what local JVM?

Xmodmap is older and different from xkbmap, also "pactree xorg-xmodmap | grep -i xkb"

Just to be sure about "believe the java application is running with the x server" - is this a wayland session?

I'll need to test other java applications on my machine.

openjdk 1.8.0_191

openjdk version "1.8.0_191"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_191-b13)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.191-b13, mixed mode)

I installed Minecraft from mojang's source and java from from the repo. They are not packaged together and this is not a wayland session. I am using i3wm with nvidia drivers installed.

Here is my config file for xkb
