When I log in and start a new GNOME session via the GDM, my screen flashes red and then goes black for a few seconds before displaying the desktop. This isn't a fatal problem, but it does make me suspect that perhaps my graphics driver (nvidia) is being needlessly reset. Is there a way to make a seamless transition between the GDM and the GNOME desktop?

Welcome to the boards dgmulf, is GDM already configured to force a xorg backend? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GD … rg_backend
You also might want to additionally enable modesetting on your nvidia card, by adding nvidia-drm.modeset=1 to your kernel params. That should prevent unnecessary mode switches between the transitions.

Thanks for the suggestions, V1. Neither of them seemed to have an effect, but using nvidia-settings to create an xorg.conf got rid of the flashing.
