[SOLVED] Texmaker - pdflatex not found

When I click "Quick Build" to build the latex document, I get:

"could not start the command pdflatex -synctex=1 -interaction=nonstropmode %.tex"

I've installed the texlive-bin package and pdflatex is over at /usr/bin.

If I edit Texmaker's settings to point to /usr/bin/pdflatex this has no effect, neither does using quotes around it. If I select the binary from the choose icon gui this doesn't do anything magic either.

There is no obvious log file that I can find to help me figure this out.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Needed the texlive-core package.

Re: [SOLVED] Texmaker - pdflatex not found

Some suggestions:

1) run the pdflatex/pdftex command directly from shell, see if there is anything wrong with it.

2) Install the entire texlive-most package or at least texlive-core; why are you only installing the bins?

3) Completely remove and reinstall texmaker when you have a proper texlive distribution in your system.  It is possible texmaker is trying to detect a texlive distribution via something not in texlive-bin (I do not know, though).

4) Use gvim with vimtex instead smile
