[SOLVED] Convert video with GPU instead of CPU

I'm using ffmpeg to convert a video to a lower bitrate, but it takes all my cores and is rather slow.
Is there any way to use the GPU for this task?
Or can I lower the amount of threads?

If that is insufficient please post more details, like command line used and source and target formats and which hardware you are attempting to do this on.
