[SOLVED] Can open matlab from terminal but not from rofi

For some reason I am able to open matlab from the terminal by just typing 'matlab', however in the rofi launcher if I try to open matlab, the splash screen shows but shortly after disappears with no result. In my terminal I have no alias for matlab, and when I check journalctl I see nothing.

Could someone help me debug this issue? Thanks.

I seem to remember something like this due to the stdin filehandle status.

Edit, found it:

Thanks for that. I looked everywhere for a question exactly like this.

What I did was create a matlab_desktop script that ran matlab -desktop. Then I added that script to my path in .zprofile (.profile if not using zsh). Adding it to .zshrc or .bashrc won't work. Now I am able to call matlab_desktop from rofi and it won't crash!
