I am experiencing some lag every second or so when I am running Cinnamon desktop environment and also sometimes parts of the screen blacks out and is refreshed like a blink of an eye.
My hardware consists of a NVidia 1080 ti running latest nvidia drivers from arch repos and latest 4.20 kernel as of today (2/26/2019). I have 2 4k displays connected to the nvidia card. It also go an i7 cpu, don't remember the exact one right now and 32GB of ram plus a couple SSD disks and a regular hdd.
This only happens on cinnamon, when I switch to gnome or plasma they run smoothly, I also have windows 10 on dual boot and windows runs smooth as well.
I can reproduce the lag quite easily by opening a couple apps like firefox and a terminal window then just moving the terminal window around makes it lag every second or so.While I am moving the mouse around the window will stay in place for a bit then reappear on the mouse location, follow it for a bit then get stuck again for a bit and so on.
I've search around on the internet for solutions to this problem but could not find anything that would fix it.
I tried to install older kernel versions from arch archive repositories, as well as older versions of nvidia and its companion packages. I tried both the regular nvidia as well as nvidia-dkms and on every scenario cinammon would lag just the same.
I suspect this is not a hardware problem as I don't have the same issue when running other environments but I don't have much knowledge about cinnamon settings or where I could monitor the possible reason for this issue to be happening so I am asking in here with hopes that someone could point me in the right direction or maybe even someone who had similar issues has a solution.
Thanks for your kind attention,
