New install and Mathematica [Magically SOLVED]

I know, I'm evil and using Linux software you have to pay for, but I'm having a slight problem with Mathematica 5.2.0.  Basically, whenever I started it, xorg restarts.  Because I'm starting it from konsole, I can't see if there are any errors.  There is nothing in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.  Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm running a system that was last synced about 2 hours ago.

screen -RD math

press enter...

thecommand

after it restarts, open a terminal and type:

screen -RD math

and it will bring you back to the same terminal session.

Re: New install and Mathematica [Magically SOLVED]

Strangely enough, it's working fine now..  The only thing I changed is my nvidia driver version, so I guess it was an opengl issue... Thanks for your time.

heh... have fun smile

don't be ashamed of using a closed source epice of software... mathematica is in a class of its own (for those who need that sort of thing)

I totally agree. Too be honest, I don't think any one on these forums would give any one grief for using closed-source software, so don't worry about posting questions about non-FOSS. I think that kind of zealotry is reserved for other distros.

Re: New install and Mathematica [Magically SOLVED]

Yeah, I come from a Debian background wink

I prefer open source (I'm a poor student, there is only so much I can afford), but if there is closed source software I need, I have nothing against using it.  And being a student, I got Mathematica for £80, an offer I couldn't say no to wink

Cheers all

Re: New install and Mathematica [Magically SOLVED]

Well, now that's sorted, could I offer a little tip?

What I would say though is that "Desktop Environments" is meant for posts on KDE/Gnome/XFCE/Enlightenment/Openbox/etc/etc/. "Workstation user" is the place to go for this type of query. Don't fret though - just friendly advice! smile
