On attempting to install the juila package, I am notified of a conflict:
openblas and blas are in conflict. Remove blas? [y/N]As I understand it, the two packages provide the same library (see [SOLVED] Update Issue: openblas and blas are in conflict).
Now, blas is required by several packages on my system. For example, the laplack package has bias listed as a dependency, but not openblas.
My question is whether it is safe to perform the conflict resolution? In other words, can openbias fulfil the dependency role for laplack?

openblas provides blas. So yes, it fulfills the lapack dependency.

If you press "Y" and try it, then there are only two possible outcomes:
- openblas does fulfill the dependency role, and you successfully install both julia and lapack
- openblas does *not* fulfill the dependency role, and pacman will tell you you cannot "Remove blas?" as long as lapack is installed
pacman is designed to not let you break your system -- the dependency constraints can only be fulfilled if all packages reach a state of validity on your system. So it is always "safe" to accept something.
Of course, the user might have some personal reason to prefer one or the other, which is why pacman will first ask you.

Thank you both for clarifying this.
