No laptop HDMI output on my second screen

Hi

I've been using archlinux on my laptop for about 3 years and my second screen for about 5 years now.

Problem :
My second screen is not working with arch since 01/03/2019 (March 1st) when I updated with yaourt -Syu and rebooted.
The second screen isn't detected by the system. When I plug the HDMI cable in or out, nothing happens. I cannot switch to the second screen by pressing super+p ou browsing the Gnome settings panel. There is no output on dmesg when (un)plugging the cable from the computer.

Booting on Windows, the screen is displaying correctly so the screen, the cable the HDMI connector are working and are not the issue here.

I have been looking for similar issues on the web but kept finding Xorg-related problems that did not apply.

My laptop : HP ENVY Notebook - 15-k222nf

GPUs and drivers :

# lspci -k
[...]
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 5500 (rev 09)
	DeviceName: Intel(R) Graphics GT2
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company HD Graphics 5500
	Kernel driver in use: i915
	Kernel modules: i915
[...]
0a:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM107M [GeForce GTX 850M] (rev ff)
	DeviceName: NVIDIA GeForce GT 850M
	Kernel modules: nouveau, nvidia_drm, nvidia

I am using Gnome with gdm on Wayland.

I updated again this morning, currently using:

  • linux 5.0.arch1-1

  • wayland 1.16.0-1

  • gdm-plymouth 3.30.2-1

I tried to login with Xorg : same problem.

Note:

  • Even the login screen is not showing on the second screen as it used to

  • FYI I have also been having USB related problems since the update but that is for another day

  • Gnome is displayed using the Intel integrated GPU, not the nvidia. FYI I have bumblebee installed

I have no idea how to debug this. Any information on how to deal with this kind of issue is welcome.

Re: No laptop HDMI output on my second screen

Maybe the output of 'xrandr' with HDMI connected can help.
You could check for errors on Xorg logs too.
How did you set up the second screen (xrandr, gnome settings...)?

Re: No laptop HDMI output on my second screen

Hi The Loko
It ended up working fine after a few updates... I cannot say which ones though.
