[Solved] blinking cursor in console is SOS?

i've been trying to get the cursor in console to stop blinking.  i tried the suggestion in the wiki about passing vt.global_cursor_default=0 to kernel but that removes the cursor entirely.

anyway, as i am staring at this blinking cursor i notice it blinks in what looks the Morse code pattern for SOS.

anyone else notice this?  maybe my eyes are going bad?

Does "setterm --cursor off" help you?
("printf '\e[16;5000]'" won't work for me to set a 5 second interval)

Seth, that setterm comman will turn off / hide the cursor entirely.  To stop the blinking:

echo 0 > /sys/class/graphics/fbcon/cursor_blink

I know. Caveat on the cursor_blink: won't work w/ VGA consoles :-(

As you know, video card renders the VGA console not the kernel.

You can use 'yaft' that's a terminal emulator for tty, it doesn't use the xorg, uses framebuffer like linux console, and runs on console. it's as fast as real console even faster. Its cursor doesn't blink so you can be comfort.

echo 0 > /sys/class/graphics/fbcon/cursor_blink

that worked!  i searched far and wide and never came across this.

only works when logged in as root. i couldn't get it to work using sudo - permision denied.  but that's okay.

now i just have to have it execute at start up

thanks

yaft.   i'll have to try that.  i didn't know you could use a terminal emulator without xorg

thanks

that worked nicely.  i'll have to remember tee for the future.

then i sent terminal output to >/dev/null and i dont have to see the 0 output of tee.

thanks for the help
