Linux kernel won't upgrade after running -Syu

Hello, I'm pretty new in Arch and I really like it, it's my favorite OS so far. I ran a pacman -Syu and it made my boot fail because systemd couldn't load kernel modules due to mismatch in kernel version, I managed to fix that by downgrading the kernel.
but I can't seem to understand why my kernel won't update.

pacman -Q linux outputs:

linux 5.0.2.arch1-1.

while uname -a outputs:

Linux tamir-pc 5.0.0-arch1-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Mar 4 14:11:43 UTC 2019 x86_64 GNU/Linux.

From a quick google search i realized the main reason that this problem occurs is when trying to upgrade while /boot not mounted but that's not the case, my install is BIOS based, I don't have a seperated boot partition.

/etc/fstab:

# Static information about the filesystems.
# See fstab(5) for details.

# <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
# /dev/sda2
UUID=5BE8D9A432DCA2B9   /               ntfs            rw,nosuid,nodev,user_id=0,group_id=0,allow_ot$

# /dev/sda1

Re: Linux kernel won't upgrade after running -Syu

Welcome to the boards TamirBO

You're doing a lot of weird stuff in that fstab, why are you mounting a ntfs partition to your root ? Then you mount your actual root partition over it. Mount that ntfs partition somewhere else.

What's your output for

ls -l /

(also please use [ code ] and not [ quote ] tags for pasting output)

Re: Linux kernel won't upgrade after running -Syu

both vmlinuz-linux files output are the same, maybe because I downgraded the kernel.

file vmlinuz-linux:

 /boot/vmlinuz-linux: Linux kernel x86 boot executable bzImage, version 5.0.0-arch1-1-ARCH (builduser@heftig-18825) #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Mar 4 14:11:43 UTC 2019, RO-rootFS, swap_dev 0x5, Normal VGA

parted -l:

Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/4096B
Partition Table: msdos
Disk Flags:

Re: Linux kernel won't upgrade after running -Syu

Even if you could, you shouldn't mount it to / make a directory like /windows and mount it there.

If your fstab and the above output is any indication, you at one point in time didn't actually have that /boot uncommented so you mounted your / over /boot so now your kernel and grub images are at the wrong place.

make sure your /boot is not mounted and is actually the directory, update the system again,  then regenerate your grub config into the /boot directory.

Tried what you said here and it didn't work, maybe i'm missing something here?

this is my fstab now:

Re: Linux kernel won't upgrade after running -Syu

You probably  want to move that windows mount to the last position.

What's your output for

tree /boot #Needs the tree package
file /boot/vmlinuz-linux
cat /boot/grub/grub.cfg
mount

Re: Linux kernel won't upgrade after running -Syu

both vmlinuz-linux files output are the same, maybe because I downgraded the kernel.

So what if you update the kernel and then run

file {/boot,}/vmlinuz-linux

Does that show a new version?

Also check the timestamp (`ls -l`) for {/boot,}/initramfs-linux.img to see if that has been updated correctly.

Does the fallback menuentry boot correctly with an updated kernel?
