'No protocol specified' when editing pacman.conf with vim as root

Hi all!

Recently I tried to redirect pacman's log messages to syslog uncommenting UseSyslog option as described in the man page, but when this option is uncommented and the vim is closed the 'No protocol specified' message is shown in the command line.

If I edit with nano this message is not show.

Anyone has any clue about this?

Thank you Cirrus,
The link does not work, I'm getting the error "xhost: can not open view": 0 "".
I will leave this for now since I have other problems to solve.

Re: 'No protocol specified' when editing pacman.conf with vim as root

How do you invoke vim (sudo?), is it the "regular" vim or gvim?

However:
1. stay away from xhost PLEASE ;-)
2. probably "sudo -E"
3. don't do that at all, use sudoedit (see it's manpage for handling of $EDITOR et al to invoke your preferred editor)
