I have Arch installed on a Thinkpad T420s. About once a month, the laptop will freeze. When this happen, most of the screen will be obscured by multi-colored horizontal bars (picture here - the LHS is washed out by the lighting, but if you look at the bottom half of the RHS, it's bars like these). It'll usually stay like this indefinitely until I hold down the power button, although just today it shut off by itself after a few seconds. I've gone through journalctl and /var/log/Xorg.0.log, and everything looks as though I just rebooted my computer.
This has only happened while I'm watching videos (either youtube or twitch); however, it's happened few enough times that this could just be a coincidence. The CPU temperature/load looked fine at the time, and I've done much more computationally intensive things on this laptop without a problem. Any thoughts as to what the problem could be?

Post your journal from the boot where you've experienced a freeze. e.g.
sudo journalctl -b-1for the boot previous to your current, (or if you happen to know a date, you can also limit to that date) https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … ing_output

Here it is. I couldn't figure out how to restrict to both a previous boot and a date, so I went with the former (just ignore all the earlier messages). I don't see anything out of the ordinary.
I'm an idiot and accidentally replied to that thread instead of this one. Posting again though, I ran memchecker and didn't find any issues.

I'm having the same issue here... periodically freezes and none of the keyboard input works.. can't go into terminal... I've been monitoring memories, nothing unusual been checking the journalctl.. don't see anything... really hard to pin point what the problem is... It would be great to hear what solution is provided for @asportking on Arch 5.0.8
