How do I _REALLY_ update GNOME icon cache?

For some time the terminal icon in GNOME for all of the icon sets (both installed and defaults, like HighContrast) is taken directly from Adwaita (default icon theme). In some themes this also affects other icons (like Files or Darktable). I did `gtk-update-icon-cache -f -t /usr/share/icons/SOME_THEME_I_M_USING/` (as root) like 10 times, I've rebooted ~10 times, I've restarted GNOME shell (Alt + F2, r), I've tried `gtk-update-icon-cache ...` from a virtual terminal without logging in (right after reboot), I've deleted my ~/.cache folder, ... - nothing helps. The icon is stuck.

The theme I'm trying to use now - Shadow - definitely HAS an icon for terminal in /usr/share/icons/Shadow/scalable/apps/terminal.svg (just like most other themes I tried today), yet I see the default Adwaita icon no matter what.

Any help appreciated!
