Display Ports Not Working AMD Radeon Pro WX 4100

I'm having troubles getting the Display Ports of this WX 4100 to turn my monitors on(I have 3 identical DELL P2213 monitors).  The card has mini-ports, but came with adapters that convert it to standard Display Port adapters.  I also have Display Port to DVI Adapters that work fine (the monitors power up) but if I go straight display port, they don't come on.  (I want to only use the Display Ports)...

Before I completely give up, I'm hoping someone could help me figure this out.

I've seen this other post and followed it, but it still isn't working.  Here are outputs of some important files (according to that post).

# The following modules are loaded before any boot hooks are

# MODULES=(piix ide_disk reiserfs)
MODULES=(amdgpu radeon)

# BINARIES
# This setting includes any additional binaries a given user may
# wish into the CPIO image. This is run last, so it may be used to

# BINARIES are dependency parsed, so you may safely ignore libraries

## This setup specifies all modules in the MODULES setting above.
## No raid, lvm2, or encrypted root is needed.
# HOOKS=(base)
#
## This setup will autodetect all modules for your system and should

## No autodetection is done.
# HOOKS=(base udev block filesystems)

Re: Display Ports Not Working AMD Radeon Pro WX 4100

In mkinitcpio.conf ypou have this :

MODULES=(amdgpu radeon)

Remove radeon from that line, you have no cards that use it.

from xorg log :

[  1642.078] (==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"

post the contents of that file.

from the dmesg | grep drm snippet :

[ 4.426712] fbcon: inteldrmfb (fb0) is primary device

Do you have any screens connected to the integrated gpu ?
If not, try setting the amd card as primary card in bios/uefi firmware.

Re: Display Ports Not Working AMD Radeon Pro WX 4100

Interesting, it looks like I backed up the xorg.conf file when I first installed Arch, but never generated another one:

# ls -la /etc/X11
total 40
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Oct 15 10:35 .
drwxr-xr-x 88 root root 4096 Apr 1 09:15 ..
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Mar 6 13:30 xinit
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5243 Oct 12 12:43 xorg.conf.beforearandrsettings
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Oct 15 10:46 xorg.conf.d
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5243 Oct 12 11:55 xorg.conf.good
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5243 Oct 12 11:21 xorg.conf.original

I just tried to generate one and use it (xorg :0 -configure), but when I attempted to $startx into my XFCE4 desktop manager, all I saw was 2 grey screens and I had to Ctr-Alt-F2 and #pkill X to get out of it...  so I deleted it and now I'm back in my desktop (with no xorg.conf).
Here is what  generated (that gave me 2 grey screens).

And I currently have 2 monitors plugged into the integrated video (2 display ports) (I'm using an OptiPlex 7060) And I have my other monitor plugged into slot 1 of the WX 4100, in hopes of getting it to come on... It's like it sees it, but won't kick it on....

I'm just using 2 monitors for now, but I am much more productive with 3 monitors (I'm a Systems Programmer) so screen real-estate is priceless.  If I can find another one of these monitors somewhere I"m going to snag it and use it

I also use ARANDR to manage these monitors, it shows it as being active, but doesn't actually kick it on. https://gyazo.com/0e69d762427c1ad328499692c498d6c0

Thanks!

edit to add this shot of Arandr showing the monitor is active and available.  DP-5 and DP-6 are onboard, Display Port 1-0|3 are the WX 4100

Re: Display Ports Not Working AMD Radeon Pro WX 4100

This very much looks like a hybrid graphics system, and those require special configuration[1].

It looks like you use open source drivers , so the PRIME wiki page is the relevant one.

GPU offloading works when all monitors are connected to the same videocard.
It does allow to use a specific card to render for  a specific monitor though.

"Reverse prime" and "Discrete card as primary GPU" both allow to use all screens connected to any card.
All rendering will be done by the same card though.

Edit:
Since the wx 4100 is a lot more powerful then the intel one and can handle many screens there may be another alternative :
use bios/uefi firmware to make the wx 4100 the primary card
connect all screens to the wx 4100
use gpu offloading to let the intel card render the "light" workloads
end of edit

[1] Recent xorg-server can handle some prime setups without user configuration, so you may not have noticed you're running hybrid graphics.

Re: Display Ports Not Working AMD Radeon Pro WX 4100

Thank you for pointing me to the PRIME documentation, that is a new concept for me, but I could not get this to work.  I made it the primary card and plugged all the monitors into it, I was able to see the bios loading screen, but after that all the monitors would go into power save mode and I couldn't get them to turn on.  As much as I would rather use the open source drivers, I think I'll wait for the proprietary drivers to be updated to use Linux 5, and for now I will continue using the mini-display port to display port adapter, to display port to dvi adapter and to the dvi cables.  It makes behind the computer very cluttered and ugly but at least I can use three monitors this way.

I do appreciate your help and maybe this will help someone else down the line.  I hope someone who has this card can get it working that way and post here, and hopefully not get called out for necro-bumping!

The proprietary stack uses the same kernel driver [1] [2] so you have a 5.0 compatible version of it as supplied by the in tree driver.
