Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the following issue: My fresh install with i3/i3-cinnamon, NetworkManager (and nm-applet) successfully establishes wireless and wired connections. However, whenever I try to connect to a public hotspot (e.g., at a local coffee shop) NetworkManager says "connected", but the login page of the hotspot does not show up: when trying to open a website in any browser (chrome, firefox, epiphany), the browser tries to load the webpage without opening the necessary login page.
Only for some networks the login page shows up. For a few other I found a workaround by using
route -n
and typing the default gateway into the browser, but this doesn't work for most of the hotspots.
I remember last time when I did a fresh install (but with the gnome desktop) this issue did not arise. Did I miss any necessary packag(es) or does anyone have a solution for that?
Thanks!

I haven't tried capnet as @jasonwryan pointed out, but for a lot of captive portals you can try "http://1.1.1.1" (or https) in the browser and it should redirect you to the login page as well. Some hotels use different Wifi portals and this trick wouldn't work.

Thanks both of you! capnet-assist worked for me. After installing and connecting one just need to run
io.elementary.capnet-assist
.
