I am using the linux-lts kernel and i3 ( not i3-gaps) window manager on my Dell XPS 15 9560 laptop. I installed Visual Studio Code from the official repository but I noticed that pressing 'Ctrl + `' was not opening the integrated terminal in VS Code. So I used 'xev' to check what happens when I press 'Ctrl + `'. I noticed that when I press only Ctrl or only `, I get correct output from xev but when I press the keys together, I get a KeymapNotify event.

[agd@amit-pc ~]$ I read the ArchWiki for all topics about configuring keyboard mappings for Xorg but I am not able to identify what is relevant to my issue. Please help. Kindly let me know what other diagnostic commands I should run and post results of.

It looks like something else (i3 maybe) has grabbed the Ctrl+` combination or at least the ` already.

xdotool key "XF86LogGrabInfo"Then check your Xorg log - should tell you what client holds a passive grab on this.

Thank you for your reply, Trilby. I checked my i3 config. I did not have any keybinding for Ctrl + `.
Thanks seth. Your reply helped me find the culprit. I am using 'dunst' and it had a mapping for history set to 'Ctrl + `'.
I had to look up how to use XF86LogGrabInfo for active grabs but I was able to find it eventually.
Thanks a lot!
