[SOLVED] i3-gaps errors - first arch install

I'd like to start out by saying that I'm not especially tech savy, I'm sure this is a dumb stupid question but I'm really stuck.

I've successfully installed arch with KDE, the uninstalled it to try solely a window manager because I like the purist aspect of it.
I've installed i3-gaps using pacman and then launched when I try to launch it using startx it bugs out and there is 3 blank windows, the config pop up doesn't appear and I have to reboot using the power button.

I then run xinit i3 which then properly boots up with the configuration pop up but a window labelled "login" is always presentm if I close the window it shut downs i3.
In the window a bunch of errors are stated:

[libi3] ../i3-4.16.1/../i3-4.16.1/libi3/font.c Using Pango font monospace, size 8
/bin/sh: i3status: command not found
[../i3-4.16.1/../i3-4.16.1/i3bar/src/child.c:366] ERROR: stdin: received EOF
[../i3-4.16.1/../i3-4.16.1/i3bar/src/child.c:490] ERROR: Child (pid: 4127) unexpectedly exited with status 127

Edit:
My keyboard mapping is US when it was set to fr-latin1 and there is also a red error message on the lower right saying "Error: status_command not found or is missing a library dependency (exit 127)

Edit2:
No idea what I did but it worked.
