Dell XPS 9365 not turning off?

I have had arch running on my Dell XPS 9365 for quite a while now (dual boot with win 10), but I have had some issues that I first didn't understand as an issue. It seems often when I have used Arch the battery is completely drained the next time I'm going to use it. I started to suspect it doesn't really turn off and I think now I can confirm that. After turning off my computer from Arch a couple of hours later I see it is blinking red. I press space and it immediately shows my the Gnome desktop, so I guess it doesn't really turn off, maybe just the screen and the keyboard, I don't know. However I am not sure how to find this out or it it happens every time. I guess the logs are gone the next time I start it...

No ideas how to investigate power off issues? Any way to make sure the last log persists for instance?
