[RESOLVED] chromium 74 starts with unpleasant black white flash

After upgrade to chromium-74.0.3729.108-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz I notice that chromium starts with an unpleasant black, then white flash before the final application window appears.

I am running arch latest with openbox. Normally I run with compton for transparency effects, but the flash still happens if that's turned off.

If I downgrade to chromium-73.0.3683.103-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz I don't see the flash.

Does anyone else see this problem?

Edit: this seems to be fixed (at least for me) with package 74.0.3729.157-1

I can confirm that this is happening for me. All else appears normal with Chromium, so I'm not really concerned.

I saw this also here.
This seems to have disappeared after setting 'Use hardware acceleration' on 'off' in Parameters Advanced settings.
My integrated Intel gpu doesn't support it anyway.

The log error messages about GL seems to stop appearing also:

[5465:5465:0427/152128.748212:ERROR:buffer_manager.cc(488)] [.DisplayCompositor]GL ERROR :GL_INVALID_OPERATION : glBufferData: <- error from previous GL command

I will see if everything works as before this change to decide if I re-enable the option or not.

berbae's parameter change seems to work for me. I also have intel (Iris Graphics 540) graphics, but I am not clued up enough to know if it supports the hardware acceleration mentioned by him.

vainfo seems to suggest I have acceleration. I might need to be using an alternate chromium package

Edit: I tried installing chromium-vaapi-bin, but the annoying flash persists with "Use hardware acceleration when available" enabled.

Same here with Firefox and Chromium. Are you using Wayland?

Does not happend on Xorg or on Wayland with firefox-wayland.

I've been seeing this pop up in new posts over the last few days so I finally had a read about the issue here and then checked to discover I have this issue too, on both my GNOME+Wayland PC, and notebook and with both FF and Chromium. I also see that it goes away for chromium if disable hardware acceleration.

I gotta say it is a pretty mild issue and I had not noticed it before, but unfortunately ! can't "unsee" it now

Same here with Firefox and Chromium. Are you using Wayland?

Does not happend on Xorg or on Wayland with firefox-wayland.

I am using slim + Xorg + openbox.

I'm using Xorg + xfwm4 + compton. I see that flash only with Chromium, no other program.
