sata drive set up

Hi,

I have just put in another sata drive on my system but booting has gone nuts...

drops out at filesystems .. so had to change sda refs to sdb is that normal

it now means my main drive (the one root is on!) is sdb ?? tried switching sata leads did not help

I think lilo is on sda ... & its booting sdb can I change this to get root on sda ?

Hope that makes sense  :?

Re: sata drive set up

What error do you get?  And what is your /etc/fstab?

Re: sata drive set up

Ok,

I had fstab set for single drive as sda but after adding second drive that changed to sdb .... so I changed fstab & it worked

Now I assumed! that sata did not need to be set as master or slave but after reading mobo manual (I do read manuals sometimes lol) it states that red is for master & black is for slave (the sockets on mobo!)

Anyway I may try changing leads to see if that works

Would like to set up RAID1 if possible for a little extra performance (backup!)

thoughts?

Re: sata drive set up

Naturally, the computer must pick up the sata devices and add them one after the other. It won't be useful to fetch them all at once, and start a scan for any boot records. Therefore, there is an order, but not in master or slave manner.
