Installing Cam over USB

I'm trying to install a usb-cam.

lsusb gives me:

Bus 002 Device 018: ID 0603:8611 Novatek Microelectronics Corp. NTK96550 based camera

I also can access the content of the inserted microSD card. So it is recognized, but apparently only as a "hard drive", not a camera.
In VLC I only can see my integrated webcam.

I assume, I need to install the right driver. This is what I found: https://devicehunt.com/view/type/usb/vendor/0603
But I don't see any download button.

Can anybody help?

Re: Installing Cam over USB

I'm not sure what you expected to find on that URL but that's nothing other than a device list/index.
If you can access the device and your system lists it properly it has already loaded a driver for it.

Without you giving any information on the camera itself (model, manufacturer, etc) it's hard to know what is and isn't supposed to work but just looking up the lsusb data suggests it's not webcam in the first place. Are you sure it's supposed to function as such?

You could maybe try and use gphoto2 to see if you can run it to capture from the camera (http://www.gphoto.org/doc/remote/) but without any information on the camera you're trying to use, this is a wild guess at best and I give this a very slim chance of success tbh.

Re: Installing Cam over USB

This is a wildlife cam correct?
does it even has an option to view or stream live images over USB?

As far as I know you can connect it to your computer, but the kernel only supports the storage part of the device. So you can load the pictures, video captures to your harddrive. There is no option for livecam output. At least not in the current kernel

You might poke around with usb_modeswitch utility. It is mainly used to switch 3g dongles from storage device mode to network device mode. Maybe you can make it work with your camera
