[solved] ls -R | nano

I thought this would be a nice way to see everything on the system at once: "ls -R | nano"
It was a terrible idea. Ctrl-C and Ctrl-Z won't stop the process. Where do I start fixing this mess? (short of shutting off the computer, would feel like cheating)

Not sure what to look up. Not looking for a step by step answer here, just asking if one of you wonderful people would mind pointing me in the right direction? Thanks.
