Mouse not responding to setup

I don't understand what's wrong. Sometimes the mouse works, sometimes the led's start to flicker, sometimes doesn't work at all. It's a Mionix Naos 7000. I cleaned the usb connector, I tried different usb hubs.. dmesg;

So it seems to be alive still, but what can I do? I thought maybe it's a power issue and I should turn off the rbg led, but I can't do that from linux so any other ideas?

Re: Mouse not responding to setup

xhci_hcd is USB 3 driver, mice typically don't need usb3 .

Does your system have usb2 ports and have you tried them ?

Edit:

lsusb and lsusb -t output may be helpful, please post them.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

(A works at time B)  && (time C > time B ) ≠  (A works at time C)

Re: Mouse not responding to setup

Wild guess, do you have a parallel windows installation?

No, I haven't..

In a usb 2 hub dmesg says something different:

But it's strange, because the mouse was working with the same configuration before. Also I thought usb3 is backwards compatible with usb2 hardware. The usb3 hub is powered btw, the usb2 hub not.

Re: Mouse not responding to setup

The mouse doesn't show up in that lsusb (so it's not working or attached at that time) and you're getting pipe errors on USB 2 & 3 ("-32") so it's basically the same issue.
Can you try the mouse on a different system (windows or linux and different HW if possible, maybe a friends computer) to rule out the mouse is simply broken?

Also: did you ever try it w/o any external hub?

Didn't think about that one.  Nope still doesn't work sad

So I believe it died. The only thing I can come up with to still try is to cut the cable and shortening it (assuming the defect is caused by the wire), can errors like this be caused by a faulty wire?

Anyhow I'm very disappointed by this brand, I need better quality than this, I need a mouse like this that will last a lifetime - any recommendations?

Re: Mouse not responding to setup

It's a communication error, so this could be the cable, yes (esp. if there's a suspicious kink …)

But before you draw scissors and solder (you'll btw. have to be pretty good at this, the wires will be fairly thin): did you try it on a different system (different HW, different OS)?

As for brand recommendations: it's against forum rules, but a decade year old logitech.
They were indestructable, but the new ones seem to suffer from the same flimsy construction as the rest of the China-roulette :-(

To be fair: A broken cable would not entirely be on the vendor, though ;-)
