[SOLVED] Xorg switches to 0hz refresh rate on resume or VT usage

Hello,
my Arch installation process has gone smoothly over the last two days, but there's been a problem that googling and searching the forums just won't solve. I'm working on a Lenovo Ideapad 320 and I did have the issue where Xorg would crash upon resume, resulting in a complete system lockdown, which i avoided by installing the LTS linux kernel, but now something completely different happens. Whenever i suspend and then resume, or if i switch to a different VT and  come back to VT7, Xorg just seems frozen. I am still able to move my cursor, and the interesting thing is, if during this time i click on some link on my firefox browser, or if i switch to a different tag (at first i thought this was dwm's fault, since it's heavily patched, but this also happens with other WMs such as openbox), then go to, say, VT2 and come back to VT7, the screen is not blank, but reflects the changes of my actions before i switched to a different VT. Also, when this problem occurs, the cursor changes its shape based on the location, meaning that it's sort of still working in relation to my own applications.

Xorg.0.log
hwinfo output

The faulty resume event seems to occur at [1881.147]. This line says

[ 1881.147] (II) AMDGPU(0): Modeline "1366x768"x0.0 76.42 1366 1434 1479 1592 768 772 779 800 -hsync -vsync (48.0 kHz eP)

Which sounds strange to me, since at the beginning, when xorg is started, this pops up.

[ 6.589] (II) AMDGPU(0): Modeline "1366x768"x60.0 76.42 1366 1434 1479 1592 768 772 779 800 -hsync -vsync (48.0 kHz eP)
[ 6.589] (II) AMDGPU(0): Modeline "1280x720"x60.0 76.42 1280 1434 1479 1592 720 772 779 800 -hsync -vsync (48.0 kHz e)
[ 6.589] (II) AMDGPU(0): Modeline "1024x768"x60.0 76.42 1024 1434 1479 1592 768 772 779 800 -hsync -vsync (48.0 kHz e)
[ 6.589] (II) AMDGPU(0): Modeline "800x600"x60.0 76.42 800 1434 1479 1592 600 772 779 800 -hsync -vsync (48.0 kHz e)
[ 6.589] (II) AMDGPU(0): Modeline "640x480"x60.0 76.42 640 1434 1479 1592 480 772 779 800 -hsync -vsync (48.0 kHz e)

From this output and the strange behavior i described above, i deduced my refresh rate could really have been switched to 0hz for some absurd reason, but i know the arch gurus will have more competent answers in this matter.

On an additional note, when i installed the LTS kernel i did not remove the new one, so i tried replicating the issue. While with the LTS kernel i reproduce the behavior i described above, with the new kernel switching to a different TTY causes no issues to the Xorg server (even though i get kind of the same output in Xorg.0.log, which makes me question if my rant makes any sense), and upon returning to VT7 everything works as expected, but Xorg still crashes when i close my laptop's lid. It looks like the graphics drivers are involved (i installed both xf86-video-amdgpu and xf86-video-ati), and at this point solving the problem on either kernel would make me a happy user.

Edits: added Xorg.0.log and hwinfo output, additional testing

Try to remove xf86-video-amdgpu and xf86-video-ati and this way rely on the modesetting driver and see whether it causes similar behavior (to figure whether it's more around the kernel module or the ddx driver)

Re: [SOLVED] Xorg switches to 0hz refresh rate on resume or VT usage

This did not fix my issue using the LTS kernel, i still get the same behavior.
However, switching to the Hardened kernel from the official repo and then reinstalling the xf86-video-amdgpu package fixed this problem, and now everything works fine.

In conclusion my solution for my particular machine would be to just switch to the Hardened kernel, which is viable in my case.
