[SOLVED] Can't change keyboard layout i3wm

I'm stuck trying to change my keyboard layout for about 2 weeks now. Nothing I do works. setxkbmap -query says the layout has changed but my keystrokes continue to register as if I'm on the us keyboard. I've tried using iBus, xfce settings, xkb and many more and nothing seems to work. Something may be overriding the keyboard layout but i cant figure out what it is and can't find anywhere talking about this. I even tried commenting out all of my i3 config file to see if anything changed and it stayed the same.
I normally try to figure these things out by myself because 99.9% of the time it's my fault but this time I'm out of ideas.

This is the output of the systemctl disable commands when i hit tab (idk if this is useful but something there may be screwing things up).

$ systemctl disable --user
dirmngr.socket                dunst.service                 gpg-agent-browser.socket
gpg-agent-extra.socket        gpg-agent.socket              gpg-agent-ssh.socket
p11-kit-server.socket         pulseaudio.socket             xdg-user-dirs-update.service
$ systemctl disable
dbus-org.freedesktop.nm-dispatcher.service   dbus-org.freedesktop.timesync1.service
display-manager.service                      getty@.service
lightdm.service                              NetworkManager-dispatcher.service
NetworkManager.service                       NetworkManager-wait-online.service
nvidia-persistenced.service                  remote-fs.target
systemd-timesyncd.service

My current /etc/default/keyboard (from my understanding xkb should override this but I'm not sure)

# KEYBOARD CONFIGURATION FILE
# Consult the keyboard(5) manual page.
XKBMODEL=""
XKBLAYOUT="us"
XKBVARIANT=""
XKBOPTIONS=""
BACKSPACE="guess"

I don't know how I can provide more useful information besides this

Where does /etc/default/keyboard come from? What is the output of `localectl`? And what is in your i3 config?

Try

XKBMODEL="pc105"

I possess a device, in my pocket, that is capable of accessing the entirety of information known to man.
I use it to look at funny pictures of cats and to argue with strangers.

Re: [SOLVED] Can't change keyboard layout i3wm

I completely forgot about this but have found a solution on my own. I do not know what exactly I did but I reinstalled libxklavier (saw some people with the same problem a few years back and they had to downgrade it) and also set xkbmap model to asus_laptop (this is what I'm using).
I'm pretty sure this was a problem with libxklavier and not with the model but I'm not willing to break it so I can find out.

Sorry for ghosting this thread
