Dear All,
Would like to utilize the PC Speaker/Beep on a recently acquired Thinkpad X270 but it's slider is completely missing from ALSA via alsamixer. This is on an up-to-date Arch system but I get the same result if I boot the machine off a USB stick of Fedora Workstation 30.
I've spent a few hours passing model options to the snd-hda-intel kernel module via config files in /etc/modprobe.d/ . While I was able to get a PC Speaker/Beep slider to appear in alsamixer when "model=lenovo-dock" was passed as an option to snd-hda-intel, there was no means by which I could produce a beep. None of the model options for other Thinkpad models (including the T470) and available through the ASLA documentation on the Arch Wiki were useful in my attempts.
I know the X270 is capable of the PC Speaker/Beep since if I boot it up while the snd-hda-intel module is blacklisted, I can produce the beep. So the "issue" lies with snd-hda-intel intercepting the beep; now I'm looking for the right option(s) for the kernel module to understand what to do with it (like "model=tpt440-dock" for the beep on my Thinkpad T440S).
I understand that this might be something that needs to be reported upstream to the developers, just want to make sure I'm not missing something obvious (though my previous experience tracking down what needed to be done with the T440S makes me fairly confident that I'm not missing the obvious).
Thanks in advance to any X270 Arch Linux users that might have suggestions (though most are probably thankful that they don't have to deal with silencing the beep..)
