I accidentally deleted my home folder on Arch and I was trying to recover it. (Apparently very wrong makefile rule) extundelete was throwing a segmentation fault and I resorted to using photorec.
Photorec reported that it recovered my files but it renamed them as f{0..9}*.{.a,.c,.h, .txt etc} which makes them not so useful.
After I realized that photorec wasn't much help I found how to fix the issue where extundelete was throwing the segmentation fault.
After running extundelete a few files were recovered with their correct name but for most inodes it reported that space had been reallocated.
My theory is that when photorec recovered the files it reallocated the inodes as well and that I should find a way to transform the recovered files back to their original state.
Is this true?
If so, can you propose a way to restore the files to their original names and locations?
Thanks.
