No sound in OBS desktop capture

I have set desktop capture with sound, but the red volume range doesn't change at all, though I have played music in the browser, nor sound is recorded at all. If I add mic capturing it works. If I start and stop recording the video file doesn't have audio as well Here's the screen https://static.pychat.org/photo/9IOYpson_image.png

That feedback loop prevention line reads weird. During a recording session post the outputs of

I really don't understand this statement, given all other information it is obvious that you are - at least - 2 months behind here. Given that your system seems to be in a consistent state with that point in time this really isn't that problematic, but I just don't see why you would make that claim if it is so verifiably untrue. FWIW as it happens in between that timeline there was a new OBS release, so before we run in unnecessary circles I suggest you do turn this statement into fact by running a complete system update and posting updated logs with all the new software versions -- (don't forget about the manual intervention).

Edit: FWIW I've tested this out and it works just fine here, the resulting recording contains the stuff I've played back, using the latest current version 23.2.1

I updated my answer above. Btw obs now explicitly says that which audio source it uses, which makes me sure I didn't screw up on the wrong channel

pacmd list-sinks
pacmd list-sink-inputs
pacmd list-sources
pacmd list-source-outputs

if it's misconfigured on pulse side it might not be relevant what OBS tells you to be the case from its side.

Purely from that log, everything works as expected, a proper pulse sink is initialized, samples are going through and should be ending up in your file
