[SOLVED] dhcpcd fails to solicit a DHCP lease broadcom wl

I am running arch linux on my macbook air late 2014 with broadcom network card. Installing the broadcom-wl does nothing for my system but installing broadcom-wl-dkms, as the wiki says, makes my network card detected. When I write 'ip a' I get the following

2: wlp3s0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state UNKNOWN group default qlen 1000
    link/ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

The only thing I changed on the above was the addr to xx:xx: ...

Now to the issue. When I execute dhcpcd I get

dev: loaded udev
DUID xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
wlp3s0: IAID xx:xx:xx:xx
wlp3s0: soliciting a DHCP lease
timed out
forked to background, child pid 571

I've added 'noipv6rs' and 'noipv6' the dhcpcd.conf because it failed to lease with ipv6 AND I do NOT want a ipv6 ip.

I know the network card works because I have had arch linux on this macbook air before (about a year ago) and the network worked without issues when I installed broadcom-wl-dkms. Output of lspci -v:

03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM4360 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter (rev 03)
Subsystem: Apple Inc. BCM4360 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 18
        Memory at b0600000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=32K]
        Memory at b0400000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=2M]
        Capabilities: <access denied>
        Kernel driver in use: wl
        Kernel modules: bcma, wl

output of uname -r

4.19.58-1-lts

output of 'systemctl list-unit-files --state enabled'

UNIT FILE STATE
autovt@.service enabled
display-manager.service enabled
getty@.service enabled
slim.service enabled
sshd.service enabled
remote-fs.target enabled

using dhclient does not fix the issue nor does it output any new error

Reinstalling broadcom-wl-dkms and rebooting does not fix the issue either.

Solve it by actually connecting to an access point... forgot to configure netctl at install since I used android tethering.

Cool.  Remember to edit your first post and prepend [SOLVED] to the title.  You may need to shorten the title somewhat.
