Need to locate boot messages

Hello,
One of my boot events is failing (I think it is hal related, although HAL seems to be running.) I do receive an error message upon boot, but the screen scrolls by too fast to read. Can someone please tell me where the initial scrolling boot messages are stored on the file system?

You can scroll through them like so:

$ dmesg | less

If this has to do with the daemons at startup, those are not logged.... you may want to simply do something like:

/etc/rc.d/hal restart

and check the messages there.
