I'm looking into it, unfortunately the main package is hosted on a slow server, so it will take some time before it's downloaded.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Looks like this package is too complicated for me.
The source consists of 3 files :
savage_linux.sh (full package for savage version 2.00) is a shell-script with binary data , made with an older version of makeself that doesn't support noexec and uses a gui-based binary installer.
To stop the installer from running the shell script would have to be modified, but we would also need to figure out what the installer does exactly, so it can be done outside of the gui-installer.
savage_2.00c-english.update.run is a similar shell-script, uses a more recent version of makeself, but a gui-updater. same problem as above.
The 3rd file is a mod for playing online in tar.gz that is the easiest since it just replaces a number of the installed files.
An additional problem is that the game is written for processors with SSE-support , and there are a lot of i686 procs (older athlon , PII ) that don't have that. To make it run on those procs a patch is needed. Some kind of processor detection would be needed to determine whether this patch is needed.
I don't have the skills to make this package.

Is there anyone that can make this package? By the sounds of it, its above my head aswell, but I'd really like to see this package for Arch.

I am/was going to make a package for it (already started it, but forgot about it recently ), however the biggest problem is complete lack of per-user support. A lot of stuff is downloaded from the server when you start the game and configs and other things are all saved to the installation directory. It makes for a messy package. There is nothing like ~/.savage/ where things are saved.

I had issues with my mouse spinning, and came across this solution (in xorg.conf):
Subsection "extmod"
Option "xfree86-dga"
EndSubSection
However, it didn't work for me. If anyone figures anything out, let me know.
Also, I was rather unimpressed with physics/gameplay, but maybe my frustration with the constant spin had something to do with it (I got it not to spin maybe three or four games out of ten or so).
