lspci makes my laptop reboot [Solved]

So I'm trying to install Arch onto my Dell XPS 9560, which seemingly went well, but when I ran lspci to start working on network configuration, from either the live disk or the installed environment, the cli vanishes, a bunch of stuff flashes across the screen and the laptop powers down. If done inside a terminal in plasma I can get maybe one lspci to work, before the terminal locks up and basically everything stops working and I have to power down with the power key. I'm completely at a loss as to what's happening. I'm also not sure what information I need to provide other than it being the Dell XPS 9560 model that has a small SSD and a 1TB HDD. Hope you guys can help me because I'm at a total loss. Ty

Re: lspci makes my laptop reboot [Solved]

Can you post the output of journalctl -b
I assume you have some sort of connectivity since you refer to an installed system.

Another thing might be to boot Windows first then warm boot to Linux -- maybe that will cause an offending device to be pre-configured.
Is this a BIOS or uEFI system?   Does the pre-boot setup have any options to configure PCI devices in legacy mode?  You might play with those settings.

If you blacklist the nouveau module can you then run lspci on the system?

Re: lspci makes my laptop reboot [Solved]

Hey, so I'm an idiot. The wiki page https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … PU_lockups has a fix for the issue that so far has seemed to work. Setting the kernel parameters listed in the wiki page has worked for making lspci work. if somebody can tell me if anything will happen with the changes I've made though it would be useful, because I'm not familiar with setting kernel params and the changes they can make
