[SOLVED] Troublesome Thunderbird upgrade path from v60.8 to v68.0

Heads up to point to a possible upgrade issue with TB on Archlinux, going from from v60.8 to v68.0 (64-bit).

Yesterday, during a periodic upgrade with `# pacman -Syu`, I downloaded and installed TB v68.0, thus replacing TB v60.8.0.
I immediately had some trouble with the now integrated TB Lightning calendar add-on: its calendar event boxes dis not show any content text as shown on this screenshot.  All calendars were equally affected but, whithin them, all-day events were the only ones to show normally.
Event box content text and configuration (alarm(s), tags, participants, repeat schedule if any, etc.) were still there and could be edited by double clicking on any event box. The only visible mess-up was text not showing in event boxes and event box colors being different from set ones.

At that point I still had `/var/cache/pacman/pkg/thunderbird-60.8.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz`. So I rolled TB back to v60.8.0 and reinstalled the Lightning add-on manually.
I also added the line `IgnorePkg   = thunderbird` to my /etc/pacman.conf until TB v68.1 comes out.

Rolling back to version 60.8.0 was a breeze. All is back to normal now.

Re: [SOLVED] Troublesome Thunderbird upgrade path from v60.8 to v68.0

Not sure if my gripe warrants its own thread, or any mention at all, but with the upgrade to v68.0, themes are crippled currently (as is well documented). However, Thunderbird's release notes state the new "Dark Theme" in v68 is supposed to feature a dark thead pane. Their screenshots (all on Mac) show this. I've tried in Arch and other distros and it seems the thread pane is annoyingly *NOT* dark in dark theme on every Linux distro I've tried. My eyes require a dark theme and unless I've missed something, there isn't an acceptable one currently functioning for Thunderbird v68.0, despite their release notes stating otherwise. I too have rolled back to 60.8.0-1.

Maybe they only tested with Adwaita/Adwaita Dark did you try that?

I am still waiting for some extensions I need, so I haven't updated yet. (The identity chooser related stuff is still missing)

I don't even think Adwaita Dark is available for v68. They really crippled theming for now.

@gxt25: I certainly did not mean my OP as a gripe. I just wanted to give folks a heads-up. If you have issues with theming or the like, the which are UNRELATED to OP, open your very own thread as it's a different subject.

Follow-up and solution:

The above problem was elevated to a bug on buzilla.mozilla.org and promptly patched by the developer at the origin of the minor snafu:
Attachement 9091340 - Details for Bug 1579491
[patch] 1579491-category-colour-esr1.diff (text/plain), 1.84 KB, created by Geoff Lankow
This does not mean that the patch was propagated to TB's package v68.8.0 still on Arch's official repo (I did not check), but it does mean that the bug will disappear from future releases.

Sorry for the poor choice of words (gripe) and the hijack.
