Hi,
I installed Arch with the intention to test drive Wayland on my laptop. I followed https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wa … stallation to get things installed with the Minimal weston.ini.
After installing gdm and gnome, I attempted to launch gdm with sudo and faced a black screen only.
One thing I realized is that in ls /sys/class/drm i have:
$ ls /sys/class/drm
card0 card0-DP-1 card0-eDP-1 card0-HDMI-A-1 card0-VGA-1 renderD128
but no LVDS1 which the Minimal weston.ini
refers to:
~/.config/weston.ini
[core]
xwayland=true[keyboard]
keymap_layout=gb[output]
name=LVDS1
mode=1680x1050
transform=90[launcher]
icon=/usr/share/icons/gnome/24x24/apps/utilities-terminal.png
path=/usr/bin/weston-terminal[launcher]
icon=/usr/share/icons/hicolor/24x24/apps/firefox.png
I'm not sure if that might be the problem, my laptop is an older ASUS UX32A Zenbook

Wayland is natively supported and integrated in gnome and gdm, so you don't actually need weston at all. Wayland is also the default session type there.
By launching gdm with sudo, do you mean you used sudo gdm or sudo systemctl enable --now gdm? The first one probably doesn't work, since you can't really run GUI applications with sudo under Wayland (this is a security feature), so that may be the issue.
Could you also post the specs of your laptop please?

Hi GXGOW,
Thank you for the reply! Yes, I first tried with sudo gdm because when I lauched gdm as user it would tell me that only root can launcxh it. I've now tried it with systemctl (sudo systemctl enable --now gdm) and that worked just fine!
Thank you!
