Hello community !!!
I have been trying several file managers, they are a lot very cool, the problem is that in MATE desktop some of them dont show at the default applications file manager setting and because of that i cannot launch them as default when i click the MATE menu of the file manager "directory" s. I have tried to modify the file
~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.listAnd in there add something like the following.-
[Default Applications]
inode/directory=worker.desktop;But no luck. So the question is ¿How can i make a default file manager that doesnt appear in the default applications dialog in MATE? i want to use Worker file manager or fman, but none of those show in the dialog.
Thank you in advance ![]()

Since MATE is another gnome fork I would expect the entries to be pulled from the application files. You can add your own for any command if they do not bring their own or you want to modify existing ones (user defined files override the ones in /usr/share/applications):
Create and edit ~/.local/share/applications/my-app.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=My Awesome Filemanager
Comment=Some text I like to add, is optional
Icon=/path/to/some/icon.ico
Exec=nautilus --new-window %U
Terminal=false
Categories=Utility;FileManager;Replace nautilus with your tool of choice, replace the placeholders with sane values, a proper name and you should be able to find it in your application overview.

Hello @Swiggles !!!
Yes i knew about .desktop files, but never had came to my mind to use them, anyway i have created my "My Awesome file manager" .desktop file correctly, everythings ok, but now i dont know how to make it default at MATE
, even though i can see that the file is created correctly (displaying the application icon and everything) but i cannot see the file manager at the MATE panel settings. Could you point me in the right direction with that? btw thank you for everything !!!
It has only duplicated the menu entry in Applications MATE menu, but havent made it default when i click in a directory

Yes, you are right. I forgot to add one line to the desktop file so it can be picked up by the system:
MimeType=inode/directory;Offline

You can check if your handler is registered by running
gio mime inode/directoryEdit: If it is not there run
update-desktop-database ~/.local/share/applicationsTo set the default either use the MATE settings or as described in your first post edit ~/.config/mimeapps.list
[Default Applications]
inode/directory=my-app.desktopOfc replace it with the proper name. :-)
