4k monitor not working with x250 plugged on dock station

Hello,

I have a thinkpad x250 and a pro dock station but I'm unable to make the display port work with a 4k monitor. How can I make it work? Where can I look to debug more about this? The xrandr command bellow don't show the display port  connected even if the cable is connected into the dock station.

I'm currently using kernel 5.2.13-arch1-1-ARCH and i3-wm 4.17.1 (i3-gaps). Can you guys point me the right direction?

Re: 4k monitor not working with x250 plugged on dock station

Have you tried activating the monitor with arandr instead?  It's a gui that will let you check a box to turn on a display.  If that doesnt work you may need to add additional higher resolutions via xrandr (see that article for instructions). Many video cards, especially Intel, will let you set any number of resolutions between 1920 and 3840, e.g., 2320x1305, etc.

Re: 4k monitor not working with x250 plugged on dock station

The output is not considered connected… and arandr is just an xrandr frontend.

@vitor, do you boot w/ the notebook in the dock? Does reconnecting the elements (output and dock) in different orders (dock, DP; DP, dock) have any impact?
Do the other ports of the dock (USB, audio, whatnot) work?
dmesg errors when you plug the dock?
