I recently did an update after waiting a bit too long so it was a big update. On my next restart Cinnamon seems to have failed. It will load up and I see a cursor and my desktop icons but it is on a black screen and I do not have a task bar. I can launch a terminal but windows do not have a proper border and stuff. I am able to launch programs.
Surfing the forums I found a thread that said to give $cinnamon --replace a whirl, and it worked. I have a fully functional system but I have to enter that command every time I restart, plus I have a persistent window open.
How can I troubleshoot why the GUI fails on initial boot?
