[SOLVED]'none' specified in /etc/crypttab for password, disk being ...

Hey guys. So I have specified 'none' in my /etc/crypttab file for the password field, as so:

cryptbackup UUID=9f79537e-9f58-4428-a914-8d58abe0ce7f none nofail

And my disk is somehow being unlocked, from previously I do have my passphrase stored in /etc/password and my 'journalctl -b 0' says this:

[frankenstein@coprinus ~]$ sudo journalctl -b 0 | grep cryptbackup
Oct 04 07:02:50 coprinus systemd[1]: Starting Cryptography Setup for cryptbackup...
Oct 04 07:02:56 coprinus systemd[1]: Started Cryptography Setup for cryptbackup.
Oct 04 07:02:56 coprinus audit[1]: SERVICE_START pid=1 uid=0 auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 msg='unit=systemd-cryptsetup@cryptbackup comm="systemd" exe="/usr/lib/systemd/systemd" hostname=? addr=? terminal=? res=success'
Oct 04 07:02:56 coprinus kernel: audit: type=1130 audit(1570136576.654:100): pid=1 uid=0 auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 msg='unit=systemd-cryptsetup@cryptbackup comm="systemd" exe="/usr/lib/systemd/systemd" hostname=? addr=? terminal=? res=success'

and also:

[frankenstein@coprinus ~]$ sudo journalctl -b 0 | grep /etc/password
Oct 04 07:03:39 coprinus sudo[2156]: frankenstein : TTY=pts/0 ; PWD=/home/frankenstein ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/nano /etc/password
Oct 04 07:03:48 coprinus sudo[2164]: frankenstein : TTY=pts/0 ; PWD=/home/frankenstein ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/nano /etc/password

Could somebody please help me understand what is going on?

Thank you.

I am also using the same password for my root cryptography as I am for my backup disk.

So, /etc/crypttab is not required.

If you are using the sd-encrypt hook in mkinitcpio.conf then the password is cached in the kernels keyring for a short period of time
and reused when attempting to unlock other devices.
