Error: Kernel panic - not syncing - Attempted to kill init!

Hello,
I can't boot my Arch Linux system anymore because of this error:

error loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/lib/libaudit.so.1: invalid ELF header
kernel panic - not synchronized - attempt to terminate init!

(See image for full error message)
error message
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UL8yA7 … sp=sharing

I really want to understand what is causing this bug and what it means and (of course) how to fix it!

Further information:
The error occurs after my Windows system crashed (blue screen) and after rebooting to Windows (windows repaired itself in a magical way after several reboots), but after that I wanted to boot back into my arch Linux and it failed hmm (I have my windows and my Linux on the same physical SSD drive, but on separate partitions).

And by the way this is my first post (so I am very desperate)

Hope you have a better day than I am big_smile

Re: Error: Kernel panic - not syncing - Attempted to kill init!

I suggest running a booting the arch installation media then S.M.A.R.T self test on the device then posting the output `smartctl -a`.
To post commands and their outputs from the console see  the tip box from pastebin.

Thanks for reply smile

I started my Ubuntu from an USB-Stick and
I did:
smartctl -a /dev/sdd5

And I got:

I also mounted and chrooted to my Arch-Linux system and tried to run nano but I got this error message:
nano: error while loading shared libraries: libmagic.so.1: cannot open shared object file: Error 117

and I tried:
cd /usr/lib
less libmagic.so.1

and i got from less:
libmagic.so.1: Structure needs cleaning

(I know that this is a binary file and reading it with less should give me some garbage output but it should give some kind of output and not "Structure needs cleaning")

It seems that some files in /usr/lib are corrupted hmm

How can I fix these corrupted files?

Re: Error: Kernel panic - not syncing - Attempted to kill init!

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … an_upgrade

You'll likely need eg.  the arch install iso, because you'll have to do this offline (w/o chrooting into the system)

pacman --sysroot /mnt -Qkk

will tell you about broken packages.

Also ensure to disable https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Du … t_Start-Up - windows crashes and then shreds your linux sounds fishy.
