How can I make Network Connections work through NAT work under VMware?

I installed Arch Linux (totally cli) on VMware WorkStation.

The softwares I have installed: GCC, vsftpd, openssh, gdb, vim, rsync.

The way to connecting to the Internet is by Bridged: Connected directly to the physical network.

But I find the speed rather slow and ftp fail to work?

I want to use NAT: Used to share the host's IP address to establish internet connection.

But no luck.

I remembered NAT was available the other day, but then it stopped working good.

I am newbie and have tried many times.

Are there any necessary softwares I must install first?

How can I make Network Connections work through NAT work under Arch Linux of VMware?

Not entirely sure but it could be that you have to set an route to the VM-NW. With

ip route add <NW>/<SM> dev <IF>

as root!

If it doesn't work you can remove the route again with

ip route add <NW>/<SM> dev <IF>

I was also experiencing this issue. The solution for me was to configure vmnet0 to be NAT w/ MTU of -. I basically copied the settings from my other vmnet to vmnet0. Then the option became available in the VM NIC configuration menu.

Re: How can I make Network Connections work through NAT work under VMware?

Your vm is directly connected to the network, meaning it is (probably)receiving its ip configuration from DHCP.

The default gateway (probably) already NATs the traffic.

Without more detailed information about the network you're on, it's impossible to know for sure.

Edited because I have a band-aid on my finger.
