Hi there,
Id3 tags are a real pain in the back. I have just a few mp3's they are giving me real headaches. Here's an example: I have mp3 from a band called "Die Ärzte", while die is an article they should be sorted under A and it works for some but not for most.
Here's an id3info output for a file where it works:
*** Tag information for ../Die_Aerzte-5_6_7_8_Bullenstaat/01punkbabies.mp3
=== TIT2 (Title/songname/content description): Punkbabies
=== TPE1 (Lead performer(s)/Soloist(s)): Die Ärzte
=== TALB (Album/Movie/Show title): 5, 6, 7, 8, Bullenstaat
=== TYER (Year): 2001
=== TRCK (Track number/Position in set): 1
=== TCON (Content type): (121)
*** mp3 info
MPEG2/layer III
Bitrate: 64KBps
Frequency: 22KHz
and here's the output of a file where it doesn't
*** Tag information for 17.Wir_sind_die_Besten.mp3
=== TIT2 (Title/songname/content description): Wir sind die Besten
=== TPE1 (Lead performer(s)/Soloist(s)): Die Ärzte
=== TALB (Album/Movie/Show title): Jazz ist anders
=== TYER (Year): 2001
=== TRCK (Track number/Position in set): 17
=== COMM (Comments): (ID3v1 Comment)[XXX]: Bonus EP
=== TCON (Content type): (121)
*** mp3 info
MPEG1/layer III
Bitrate: 256KBps
Frequency: 44KHz
I don't see a difference in this and don't understand while the first one in Cmus is correctly showing up under A while the second one under artists beginning with D?
When I try to switch to id3V2 tags it gets even worse, then this band shows up as "Die à rzte"!
THX Frank
KID-3 helped me here. Had to format fields containing an Umlaut as unicode8, which I did not manage to do with mp3unicode. Now iid3v2 tags are correct and filse are sorted as wished.
