Umlauts...

Umlauts work in GTK apps, but not in QT stuff (kopete for example).

###  rc.conf

LOCALE="de_CH.utf8"
HARDWARECLOCK="localtime"
TIMEZONE="Europe/Zurich"
KEYMAP="de_CH-latin1"

### profile

# Locale settings (find your locale with 'locale -a')
export LANG="de_CH"
export LC_COLLATE="C"

export G_FILENAME_ENCODING=ISO-8859-1
export G_BROKEN_FILENAMES=1

What can I do?? I don't want apps to be german, I like them in english. But still I want to use Umlauts in KDE apps...

Re: Umlauts...

Umlauts also work on the system console (ctrl+alt+f1) and in eclipse (GTK again, I think)

Re: Umlauts...

I did actually search the forum for "umlaut". Only two posts show up, and I don't think the solution to my problem is in either one of them. Are you referring to a specific post?

Re: Umlauts...

OK, so I fixed it by rebuilding my locale. Seems there was a mishap there. Now suddenly some application are _german_. I don't want any apps to be german. A computer is an english device to me and that's it big_smile
How do I keep apps like xine, vlc and nano from being german and still have umlauts??

Re: Umlauts...

Hi,

I have exactly the configuration you like. Besides your arguments, german translations for opensource projects are more than often of doubtable quality.
Search for a message started by me, following this thread & some luck you might be able to solve your problem wink

Re: Umlauts...

Got it, had to switch my locale back to english, plus I had to build it correctly, Now it works like a charm.
Funny thing is, that I have never even thought locales before in all the time I've been using linux...
