Re: Laptop freezes frequently

Hi,

You can try to start gather informations like so, this probably won't tell you exactly what's the issue, but it can help you pinpointing it

  • Look at logs around the time it freeze, is there something recurrent in there ?

  • Is it something recent ? Like if you never had freezes before it might be worth trying an LTS kernel for example.

  • Hardware-wise, try a memtest for good measure and also check temperatures, laptops are known to overheat easily.

  • What "type" of freeze is it ? is it only X or the whole thing ? Is it only for a few seconds and then it continues like nothing happened or do you have to restart it completely ?

  • The good old trial and error technique: "maybe it's related to my graphic driver but i don't have any logs, let's try using mesa for a few days and see if it freezes"

In your dmesg we can lines about an mce hardware error, that might be worth investigating (there's tools for those) but i don't know enough to be able to tell you if that can be related to your freezes.

Carefully explaining your problem is half the solution.

Thanks for your Inputs. Machine-check exception tool is new for me (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ma … _exception), I will make use of It.

Re: Laptop freezes frequently

In my case it is most probably due to iwlwifi driver, as it only happens when I'm using WiFi. I haven't had this issue while I was using Ethernet connection.
