Screen sharing on Jitsi in Wayland

Hello.

How can be possible a screen sharing works on Jitsi (web version) and doesn't work on Skype?

I thought it works only on Xorg, but Wayland disables it.

I use Wayland.

Re: Screen sharing on Jitsi in Wayland

There are a few interfaces for wayland that allow screencasting and remote desktop applications. Gnome and KDE implement the xdg desktop portal standard which offers this functionality in a DBus interface.

sway and other wlroots based compositors implement wlr-screencopy-unstable and wlr-export-dmabuf-unstable wayland extensions that can be used to capture the screen. There is a very basic xdg-desktop-portal implementation that does not have support for capturing the screen yet. (Only screenshots)

I think firefox and chromium implement screencasting based on xdg-desktop-portal. If you run both jitsi and skype in the browser, I don't know why one would work and not the other. Skype web blocks linux user agents, so who knows what other strange stuff they do. If you use the skype application based on electron, then I think that electron just does not support xdg-desktop-portal yet.
