Games causing RX 5700 XT to crash and require reboot.

I've been searching and nobody seems to have the same problem I have with my new card and Arch. Like many Rise of the Tomb Raider crashes, but is unrecoverable, but I also have the issue with Dishonored. When this happens the only way to get any video to work is to reboot. ctrl+alt+F2 won't get me to a tty and stopping SDDM will just get a black screen and cannot be launched.

I've tried the regular mesa packages from the Navi 10 wiki page, and I've also tried the mesa-git and lib32-mesa-git packages. It all comes out the same. Is there something I'm missing, or is this just a bug that makes my new computer useless for it's main purpose?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

I've been running linux-amd-staging-drm-next-git. Should I switch to mainline?

That info should have been in your first post.

Try with stock kernel and linux-mainline (you can have multiple kernels installed and configure your bootloader to start them).

You are running latest firmware for your motherboard and have microcode loading configured, right ?

Yes. I do have the microcode and latest firmware. I don't know how Arch handles multiple kernels. I've always only seen it have one installed in grub and the work around being just that, workarounds.

Re: Games causing RX 5700 XT to crash and require reboot.

All archlinux does is put initramfs for installed kernels in the right location (mkinitcpio takes care of this) .
The bootloader configuration is what determines which kernel is booted.

I'm not familiar with grub myself, but archlinux wiki page for grub has useful info .
Check https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GRUB#Configuration and https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GR … le_entries

I finally found the solution. The problem was a bad BIOS release from Gigabyte on their X570 boards. It was F10a for who are interested.

I seem to have the same problem. I'm running the latest BIOS from Gigabyte (F10) on my aorus elite.

Is it the same BIOS as yourself? Where do you get an update for my BIOS?

My board is out for RMA. I tried to hook up a sata drive and it wouldn't show in bios. I'm hoping there's just some defect that has been causing all my issues.
