[Solved] Applications stop playing any sound when connected to BT

Hi, I have bluetooth headphones that are... problematic. They work like half the time with my laptop, but like 80% of the time with my phone.

In the past, whenever the headphones stopped working, I just rebooted my laptop/headphones or connected & disconnected my phone, and the issue went away each time.

But this time I encountered something I've never seen before.

Applications play sound normally when sink is set to laptop speakers, that's not an issue. My phone has no problem using my headphones.
But when I try to use headphones and my laptop, applications suddenly stop playing any sound. When I launch pavucontrol, there is nothing coming out of the applications (normally the bar shows how loud the audio plays, but with connected BT headphones, it's completely gray, as no audio is playing).

Changing sink (even for one individual application) from BT headphones to speaker solves the issue and application starts playing audio.

I reproduced the issue with Spotify, Firefox and VLC.

It doesn't matter whether I connect via bluetooth dongle or internal BT.

I didn't update anything before it broke. The issue persisted across multiple reboots of both headphones and laptop, and I verified each time headphones work with my phone.

I have no idea where to even start investigating this, so any link helps. Thanks.

pactl list

pastebin, P6 is the bluetooth device. Sink state is "RUNNING" when sound should be playing.

Your monitor sink is muted but that should generally not be relevant, something I'm noticing is that all your streams have been corked for whatever reason, that is often an undesired functionality you might want to try and comment/remove

load-module module-role-cork

in your /etc/pulse/default.pa . FWIW what's your output for

journalctl -b --user-unit=pulseaudio

Re: [Solved] Applications stop playing any sound when connected to BT

Okay, today I restarted and tested it out - and it worked, it started working all of sudden. Previous restarts didn't help, but it decided to start working now. I still don't see the applications playing anything in pavucontrol, but the sound is coming out, even before commenting the module-role-cork.

Thank you, I guess this might be just problem with my BT headphones that sometimes work and sometimes don't.

Here is journalctl output, at 12:36 I did the module-role-cork change and restarted pulseaudio.
