Mupen64plus - Core Error: not compiled exception Segmentation fault

After installing mupen64plus I'm trying to run a ROM with

mupen64plus 'Legend of Zelda, The - Ocarina of Time (USA) (Rev A).n64'

however I am getting the following errors:

Core Error: not compiled exception

and

Segmentation fault (core dumped)

edit: this appears to be that my roms were corrupted
