Running pure arch, just updated.
The midori official website looks like this. Content seems missing.
https://i.ibb.co/6Xw8r7M/shot.jpg
I don't see the preference tabs shown here:
https://beginlinux.com/images/apps/midori_8.gif
My prefs look like this:
https://i.ibb.co/74c40Tt/shot-000.jpg
I don't see the sidebar show here:
https://beginlinux.com/images/apps/midori_4.gif
Am i missing dependencies?
My arch has webkit2gtk 2.26.2-2 Do i need 3.x?
i installed WebkitGTK-bin (precompiled), and liboil but that didn't help.
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/webkitgtk-bin/
https://answers.launchpad.net/midori/+faq/1629
I read these pages, but i don't understand this enough to figure out the solution:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Midori
https://wiki.xfce.org/midori/faq
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GTK
http://www.webupd8.org/2014/08/how-to-d … -side.html
thx

Try running Midori from the command line. Do you see any errors?

I think that the preferences dialog is just a change in the newer version of midori.
The webpage does have text to the left of the image missing. I don't know why, I don't use midori.

No errors on boot, midori acts the same, but pipe error on close:
$ midori
Error sending IPC message: Broken pipe
Error sending IPC message: Broken pipe
just a change in the newer version of midori
Why wouldn't i have the new version? My arch is updated.
Generally, browsing works. But features and rendering seem reduced.
i switched to midori-no-zeitgeist. Same.
thx

I think you do have the newer version. The other dialog is older.

Wow. Too bad midori have ripped out tons of important features, including access to bookmarks.

Look at the screenshots on the debian page. Everything since version 7 has that modernized dialog. Currently bookmarks are apparently only available in the urlbar popup.

Apparently they want to implement these features with moderate to low priority ("There's always next time")

I use midori on a gentoo VM and it seems fine, you could always grab the PKGBUILD and make it from scratch.

Thx for that. Sad. Seems the only way to get url popups is by starting to type something. (i'm kinda bllind, but i don't see the url popups in the link you shared). Iac, you can't just browse your bookmarks list. Seems most extensions are gone now too.

"Fine", meaning it has the sidebar? As i mentioned above, browsing works fine for me, my issue is the missing (apparently deprecated) sidebar, and reduced bookmarks features.
i'm trying to make a low-RAM, low-CPU arch. So, netsurf will be my main browser. It's a bit fatter than Midori, and weaker JS support, but renders faster, decent bookmarks support, and still relatively lightweight. Lariza is very interesting and renders well, but lacks most usability features. UZBL won't compile for me. Opera works great, but very fat and CPU intensive. Ok, now i'm rambling. Please don't ban me.
cheers

There is no screenshots of that, the link was only to compare the preferences menu of different versions.

I believe they changed their plugin system, so everything old was lost.
