[SOLVED] startx / nvidia not bringing up i3

I've been using arch on headless systems for a couple years and a GUI on one laptop (sway), now running into trouble trying to get i3 running on a desktop.

The desktop has 2 x 1080 Ti and is used for deep learning (no gaming), so I need to use nvidia / CUDA. Things don't run well under sway with nvidia, and run okay under sway with nouveau. I thought I'd try i3, since it should be pretty similar to sway, which I like, but should hopefully run well with nvidia drivers.

I followed the wiki regarding installing xorg, the i3 metapackage, and I have both the nvidia and nvidia-lts packages installed. I have also tried with nvidia-dkms with no major changes. I thought that the dual GPUs may be the issue, so I specified the BusID, which didn't help.

When I run startx, it displays (and then hangs at):

This stays on the screen with no other GUI display popping up. When I eventually `pkill X` from another tty, it also outputs:

As noted, it's a desktop with an Taichi X399, 2 x 1080 Ti, display is attached via DVI cable to the first one (bus 8:0:0).

I commented out the `Section "Device"` in /etc/X11/xorg.conf because of the override in the conf.d directory, but it didn't seem to make a difference either way (perhaps I should un-comment this).

The "(EE) NVIDIA(G0): GPU screens are not yet supported by the NVIDIA driver" looks somewhat ominous, but I have not found much on this exact error with Google or searching the forum.

Remove the xorg.conf, adjust the 10-nvidia.conf to hook onto PCI:66:0:0 (that's where your screen is), fix your .xinitrc note the blue boxes and maybe (If properly defined the standalone conf should take relevant precedence here) get rid of the Option directives in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf (or remove the file and add it to pacman's NoExtract=usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf the reason for why this file exists  shouldn't matter for a config like yours)

Thank you, changing to BusID PCI:66:0:0 was the only change necessary to get it to work. As usual, my issue was already clearly spelled out in the wiki: lspci output is in hex format, but in config files the BusID's are in decimal format! This means that in cases where the BusID is greater than 10 you will need to convert it to decimal!
